I know it’s easy for me to say, “to be happy, be in love with your life,” given that I live in Hawaii, so therefore it’s easy for me to find happiness, because there is so much to be in love with. Well, that’s partly true.

There is most definitely myriad things in Hawaii to be happy about and grateful for. Everywhere you look, paradise. However, life is still life no matter where you live. Just because your residence is in paradise doesn’t mean life is a cakewalk every single day, or that you get to be on vacation no matter what. Life still must be lived. Work must still be done. Bills must still be paid. Kids and dogs must still be fed. The laundry still has to be laundered and folded, the sinks still clog, and the toilets still need to be cleaned. And paradise has its prices, too. The rents are higher, the costs of all goods for a decent lifestyle are sold at a 15-20% mark-up at the store, and groceries are insanely expensive–not to mention the gas. And wages are much lower than elsewhere.

So, yeah, it’s amazing to live in paradise, but don’t think we’ve got it easy. In fact, we might have it harder than a lot of folk to have what we have, because things cost so much, and we make less than our continental counterparts.

But then I look out the window and think, “It’s worth it.”

When I say, “be in love with your life” (in order to find happiness), I mean that if you’re not in love with the life you have now, change it. Make a life for yourself for which you can be grateful and happy for. We didn’t have this amazing life all the time, we built it for ourselves. We saved and scrounged and worked our asses off to move here. And we work our asses off day after day to stay living here. And because we work hard, we play hard, and we also appreciate it when the Universe gifts us things like gorgeous sunsets and beautiful days when we can enjoy the neon blue water. If I feel stressed, I just look out the window at work and thank the Universe that I have so much to be grateful for every single day.

So go out and be in love with your life. Count the many things about your life right at this moment that you are grateful for. Then end your day with that list and try to add three more things to it. Keep doing that until you lose count. Then look back months and weeks later and realize, man, you really have a good thing going… and let it all snowball from there.

Have a great week, love cat. Life is amazing. Just open your eyes a little. And if it’s not… change it.

Rock on, Lover!
