Life Inspo: Show Up

Aloha and Happy Aloha Monday, Lovecat,

Here is this week’s Inspo:

20130909-071251.jpg

Want to be happy/successful? Show up to the party. If you don’t make the choice to be an active party in your own happiness or life story, everyone else’s choices will dictate the course of your life–and it may not be a good outcome.

So choose now to show up. The simple choice to take your own life into your own control, that is the first step in making your destiny.

Have a great and fulfilling week, love.

Rock on, Lover!

Architecture of an Outfit: Leopard Button Down, Lounge Pants and Wedge Sneaks

Aloha, Lovecat!

It’s ALOHA Friday, and it’s been a LONG, LONG WEEK. So today’s a lazy day for me. Wanna know a trick? Want to feel comfy, but don’t dig the idea of looking scruffy? Try a printed button down instead of a tee tucked into lux jersey lounge pants. You will feel like you’re wearing pajamas, but you’ll look like you actually planned your ensemble, and you will look pulled together, refined and stylish versus about to go back to bed (which is what your thoughts truly are).

Aloha, Lovecat,

I was interviewed a couple Saturdays ago by Cynthia (AKA “Swanky” or “Cyn”), the Swankified Goddess behind SwankyCyn.wordpress.com, who raided my shoe closet and had to get the skinny on my favorite shoes, my personal shoe style guide, fashion dos and don’ts, my shoe shopping habits and shoe horror stories.

Life Inspo / How to Be Happy: Dream Your Happiness and Your Dream Life Into Being

This week’s life inspiration for greatness and happiness is to Dream Big.

If you can’t dream what you want for yourself, you won’t be able to create it for yourself.

Choose now what you want, dream it and aim high, then create that dream.

If you cannot envision a future for yourself, you can’t have it. As long as you can picture what you want, you will be capable of attaining it. The first step is to dream.

Dream of happiness, then get your happiness. That’s the first step.

So dream big. And then get it.

Day in the Life: When Life Gets Cray, Make Craymonaid… Or Take a Nap–Your Pick

Aloha, Lovecats,

I’m blogging from bed on my iPad–how fantastic is that? Um, pretty effing awesome, actually.

This week has been pretty cray. Work is insanely busy–training and learning never ends, and the demand for Human Resources… Well, they are hungry for us, I tell you, hungry! 🙂 With all the meetings, driving and lots of hours logged at a desk for hours and hours, my back is a bit stressed, and my evenings have been spent resting, stretching and trying to relax a little. Consequently, I’ve eaten out a lot, the laundry was almost chest-high when I walked out the door this morning, and I can’t remember the last time I actually walked Bear myself.

Let’s just say, life got a little cray this week. And while life is good in general, and I’m very happy, it would be nice to get back to normalcy, when I feel okay enough to do my Yoga, walk the dog, blog and cook decent dinners.

I’m not complaining by any means. I love my life, I love my new job, I love my family, but when my back gets testy, my entire routine goes askew.

Here’s what has been up lately other than my fabulous job:

20130830-001349.jpg

20130830-001427.jpg

20130830-001639.jpg

20130830-001732.jpg

20130830-001821.jpg

20130830-001324.jpg

A fellow Hawaii fashion blogger raided my shoe closest, and interviewed me for her YouTube channel and blog. We talked shoes, shoe dos and don’ts, shoe style advice, my favorite pairs and some horror stories. Video should be up soon at SwankyCyn’s Blog.

20130830-001840.jpg
Sunday, had brunch with my favorite Dragon Queen, my former boss, D. Now we are simply good friends and I love that we can have an open and fun relationship and enjoy each others company without the added layer of boss and employee. She is seriously one of the most interesting, fun and fabulous women I know. Plus, I could borrow her clothes easily–she is so tiny and svelte! Any fashionista would die to have D’S closet!! Getting to spend time with her at brunch–Brunch, people!!–was awesome. The sun was up, the water looked amazing from our table and the buffet was sumptuous.

20130830-001340.jpg
Sunsets this week have been epic. So sad we haven’t chased one properly recently–as much as we used to–but I snapped a great one as we walked Max around the marina following some Acai Consumption.

20130830-001358.jpg
I haven’t shot my decent outfits–even though I was totally cute all week, I promise.

Husby has had pneumonia all week, and we’ve both been pretty out of commission. But yesterday
was the five year anniversary of our getting engaged on Kauai’s Na Pali coast, on the Kalalau trail… On a cliffside above Hanakapi‘ai beach. Husby was supposed to be in Kauai this last weekend to camp and hike with some of our friends–a trip we’d originally planned together prior to me finding my new career, for which reason I couldn’t go. However, he was stricken with a sudden illness which he later found out to be a severe viral infection (diagnosed as ¿walking pneumonia?), and, despite his immense desire to go, decided last minute to play it safe and stay home to recover. A couple days later, he had reduced lung capacity, was wheezing, sore and miserable.

He is thankfully recovering now.

20130830-001412.jpg

I guess the universe works in weird ways. I couldn’t go (work). Husby got sick. It would’ve been the weekend anniversary of a momentous day 5 years ago on which we decided to marry and move our lives to Hawaii three years later (which actually did happen). So maybe this was the Universe’s way of saying it was a trip we had to do together. A fruition, concretization and full circle kind of thing.

By the way, today is our four year wedding anniversary. My back hurts and Husby is still sick. Anniversary C (aka, one of three in the year) will be a quiet one. I think we will save our energies and moolah for the big anniversary (B, aka the Dating One) next year, on which we will hit Nine Years Togetherness. Or, maybe we should celebrate big on our five year wedding next summer… Dunno. It’s a year from now. We will figure it out. 🙂

Hope your week has been brilliant. Remember to always choose that today is the best day of the year. Happiness is 75% fixing your perspective.

Rock on, Lover! Happy Friday! What are your plans for this weekend?

Life Inspo: A State of Mind and Quality of Thought

Aloha, Lovecat,

Here is this week’s happiness inspiration, to infuse thought, purpose and quality into our days and lives.

{ How to Be Happy: Life Inspo: Happiness is a State of Mind }

thereafterish, happiness, finding happiness, how to be happy, life inspo, how to find happiness, seeking happiness
{ Happiness: Quality of Thought and a State of Mind. Not a prize to be chased or possessed. }

Happiness is not a possession or an object. It is a state of being. And nothing affects your being more than your mind. Your mind greatly creates and shapes your experience of the world, and if your mind is not in the right place, your heart will not be in a place to find or recognize happiness.

So prep your mind: You can actually choose to be open to happiness, and once you choose to be receptive, gratitude frees you to recognize beauty around you. You re-write your perspective on the world. You become thankful, peaceful; you respond to adversity differently. You see opportunity in challenge. You see growth in hardship, and embrace change.

When you change your mind, you change your life.

So what are you waiting for? Happiness is just one state of mind away. You can do it.

Happy Monday. Your week will be amazing.

Rock on, Lover!

Life Inspo: Be In Love With Your Life

Aloha, Lovecat,

How to be happy? Be in love with your life.

{ Life Inspo/Finding Happiness: Be In Love With Your Life–Or Make A Life You Can Fall In Love With }

thereafterish, day in the life, hawaii living, hawaii life, hawaiian sunset, hawaii sunset

thereafterish, day in the life, hawaii living, hawaii life, hawaiian sunset, hawaii sunset

thereafterish, day in the life, hawaii living, hawaii life, hawaiian sunset, hawaii sunset

I know it’s easy for me to say, “to be happy, be in love with your life,” given that I live in Hawaii, so therefore it’s easy for me to find happiness, because there is so much to be in love with. Well, that’s partly true.

There is most definitely myriad things in Hawaii to be happy about and grateful for. Everywhere you look, paradise. However, life is still life no matter where you live. Just because your residence is in paradise doesn’t mean life is a cakewalk every single day, or that you get to be on vacation no matter what. Life still must be lived. Work must still be done. Bills must still be paid. Kids and dogs must still be fed. The laundry still has to be laundered and folded, the sinks still clog, and the toilets still need to be cleaned. And paradise has its prices, too. The rents are higher, the costs of all goods for a decent lifestyle are sold at a 15-20% mark-up at the store, and groceries are insanely expensive–not to mention the gas. And wages are much lower than elsewhere.

So, yeah, it’s amazing to live in paradise, but don’t think we’ve got it easy. In fact, we might have it harder than a lot of folk to have what we have, because things cost so much, and we make less than our continental counterparts.

But then I look out the window and think, “It’s worth it.”

When I say, “be in love with your life” (in order to find happiness), I mean that if you’re not in love with the life you have now, change it. Make a life for yourself for which you can be grateful and happy for. We didn’t have this amazing life all the time, we built it for ourselves. We saved and scrounged and worked our asses off to move here. And we work our asses off day after day to stay living here. And because we work hard, we play hard, and we also appreciate it when the Universe gifts us things like gorgeous sunsets and beautiful days when we can enjoy the neon blue water. If I feel stressed, I just look out the window at work and thank the Universe that I have so much to be grateful for every single day.

thereafterish, day in the life, hawaii living, hawaii life, hawaiian sunset, hawaii sunset

thereafterish, day in the life, hawaii living, hawaii life, hawaiian sunset, hawaii sunset

thereafterish, day in the life, hawaii living, hawaii life, hawaiian sunset, hawaii sunset

thereafterish, day in the life, hawaii living, hawaii life, hawaiian sunset, hawaii sunset

So go out and be in love with your life. Count the many things about your life right at this moment that you are grateful for. Then end your day with that list and try to add three more things to it. Keep doing that until you lose count. Then look back months and weeks later and realize, man, you really have a good thing going… and let it all snowball from there.

Have a great week, love cat. Life is amazing. Just open your eyes a little. And if it’s not… change it.

Rock on, Lover!

Never Take Yourself Seriously

Happy Aloha Friday, Lovecat!

We made it! It’s Friday, and we got through another week. I don’t know about you, but my week totally flew by like crazy. It’s pretty insane. I love every moment–the happy, euphoric, the frustrating, overwhelming and stressful, the quiet and reflective moments–of my insanely busy life with my new job, new friends, new everything.

thereafterish, fotd, face of the day, selfie, selca, silly, thereafterish selfie
{ Keep it nerdy. Keep it fresh. I love these frames. }
thereafterish, fotd, face of the day, selfie, selca, silly, thereafterish selfie
{ Keep it real… keep it silly. }

Here’s a secret to enjoying life: Never take yourself seriously. Be silly. Revel in small victories, no matter how minuscule or pithy or superficial they may be. I celebrate every new coworker’s name I learn, and again when I get it right. Small victories, small delights–lots of them–add up to an amazingly rich life.

I hope your weekend plans are filled with fun, life-enriching adventures. I have a baby’s first birthday party and a BEACH DATE with Husby and Max the Bear, Sunday I have a hike with a potential new hiking buddy to add to my “crew” (of two, heh!)

Okay, catch you on the flip! Tell me about your weekend plans below!

Architecture of an Outfit: Tie Neck Button Down, Bows, Shorts and Leopard Wedges

Aloha, Lovecat,

I know you miss me. I miss you, too. I do!!

{ Architecture of an Outfit / Outfit of the Day: Bows, Leopard Heels and Shorts… Office Sexy Outfits }

Let’s get back to the good stuff: A style post. Esp, since I have nothing to say right now. I’m super tired, and I have a long day tomorrow of yet more training. Three-four more months of training during the busiest time of the year. Eeps.

This outfit is not entirely work-appropriate, unless you work at a start up or an extremely creative environment or industry. And, while my office is pretty casual for business casual, and most of the girls here are pretty on the up and up on fashion, these “dressy shorts” still wouldn’t fly at my new office–not even on Casual Day. Oh well. I loved what I had when I had it when I worked for ETSIS – Escaping The Sun In Style–casual fashion everyday.

Life Inspo: Action Vs. Intention – Do or Do Not, There is No Try

Aloha, Lovecats and Kittens,

It has been awhile, has it not? I’ll explain later.

It’s Monday (or Tuesday, depending on when you read this). I know we are pre-programmed to abhor Monday mornings, but since I’ve been on this mission to re-write my attitude and project only positive energy, I’ve been re-doing how I look at the world, and that includes how I look at Mondays. Mondays are an opportunity to make a week fabulous. Mondays are a chance to do something great with the week.

So… Monday, CHEE HOO! LET’S DO THIS!!

{Life Inspo / Day in the Life: Action Vs. Intention – Mondays Rock }

Inspiration to get your week started (or get it in better vibes)!

{ What one DOES is what counts, and not what you thought of doing. }

Remember that action and gestures–what you actually DO–are what really count in the end. Thoughts and desires and concepts can only take you so far. If you never act on them, they all amount to nothing. It goes back to the concept of nothing ventured, nothing gained.

You know how a child is the greatest imitator of their role model’s actions, and the proverbial “Do as I say, not as I do” phrase has been echoed time and time as the wrong way to teach a child how to live life? It’s all about the actual actions we take and the behaviors exhibit that matter. No one in the universe knows our mind, so intent and desire can only get you so far. If you never act on your thoughts, there is nothing to reflect upon or nothing to look back to.

So make sure that your actions match your thoughts. If you want a beautiful life, if you want to be happy, it’s not just about readjusting your perspective and having good intentions for yourself and for your corner of the universe… but really acting on those thoughts, desires and goals and making your dream come into fruition. Only you can really make it great for yourself. Only you can bring yourself true and lasting happiness. So go do it. Think it, do it.

And in my life lately… I got a new job.

{ My first week glow. }

{ The view from my office suite window… }

Here is a quick update for you in addition to a Monday Life Inspo (Inspiration) tidbit.

  • Started a new job July 31st in Human Resource Management… Exciting and making tons of new friends…
  • Huge adjustment, as I went from doing office management and Social Media Coordination at a creative Sun Protection Start-Up to an established corporation that has 150+ employees
  • Also have a small amount of insurance and human resource background, but the amount of knowledge required for this new position is totally new to me and overwhelming (but in the best way possible).
  • Learning all the names and department/divisions of our company gets more confusing as there are multiple names for different departments (the actual name, and the Hawaiian team name), and that there are multiple people who have the same first name! CRAZY.
  • We get to wear fashionable stuff here, and lots of the girls here are total fashion and shoe horses. Color me in love.
  • My new team is filled with vivacious, energetic and quirky colleagues. I’m in love with every single one of them. Perfect fit.
  • We have fun team meetings where we do theme-based things… next month’s company meeting is in theme gear. RAD.
  • Came off of two weeks as a single parent, but I’m happy to have Husby Back.
  • Morning routine re-write!
    • work day start at 8AM necessitates I start my day at 6-6:15 as opposed to 7:40
    • Will I become a morning person??? CRAY thought.
  • Blogging less:
    • I work b/t 40-48 hours a week as I learn and train. It’s easier to learn and study at work instead of going home. Ahh, the joys of being a salaried employee, but I love every moment!
    • Also need more sleep as I learn the ropes, with the intense knowledge being absorbed during my onboarding, and my body and mind need more rest and beauty sleep!
  • Been hiking a lot – Pretty soon I will be able to go on more intermediate trails…This might be scary.
    • Husby thinks I might be able to do Olomana Peak 1 soon…
    • I’m like, um, no, people die there a lot, bro!
  • Making new friends at work. So far I know my entire suite–2-3 departments–the suite next door, and like 15-20 people in the largest suite. Pretty good, for a newbie.
  • As yet, still haven’t been to the beach in weeks! My soul is hurting.
  • My Social life is sort of weird until I get into a groove at work and that translates over into my daily schedule, too.
  • Got a pedometer the first day of work, and am aiming to get between 7500-12000 steps a day, as I rather hate working out, and this is my way of getting exercise! So far, so good!
  • Had dinner on Saturday with my good friends and former bosses, D and C. I miss them so much, but seeing them in a nice setting without the whole employer/employee wall was definitely a breath of fresh air! Looking forward to building our relationship more in the future! Miss them a ton.

{ 6AM Wake Up Call? Yes, this all the time. Before anything else. }

Day in the Life: Aloha Style – No Can Wear Shoes In House

Aloha, Lovecat,

Aloha Style is not just a state of mind and optimism and being nice… it’s also a lifestyle, and one major component of that (other than “Just Cruise!”) is that one does not wear shoes in the house.

{ Day in the Life: I Carry My Shoes For Pictures }

aloha style, what i'm wearing, aloha style, thereafterish, street style, ootd, what I wore
{ WEARING SHOES IN DA HOUSE? Not Aloha Style… }

So you might be wondering why in the world do all my photos have me wearing shoes in the house? That’s super not Aloha Style at all. So why wear shoes in the house? Well, I don’t really WEAR THEM-WEAR THEM in the house. I always take my shoes off at the front door. For the purpose of photos, I carry my shoes to the spot where I will take the photos, put them on “on location” and then wear them only at that spot until I’m done shooting. Then I immediately take them off and put them back in the shoe rack near the front door.

Here you see me putting them on at the chair and I wore them only on that spot.

Why go through all the trouble of violating a pillar of Aloha Style… why not just shoot outside? Logistics. I live on a mountain where it is often whipped by the easterly trade winds. It’s often cloudy along the mountain summits whereas it might be 8-10 degrees warmer and sunny down at sea-level just 800-1000 feet down. I work anywhere from between 40-50 hours a week, and, by the time I get home, the light is already so low, outdoor pictures are impossible. Basically, timing and weather. I always have to take my photos indoors or on a weekend, but who has time to play the outfit photographer on a weekend when you should be out in the great land of adventure and curiosity that is the paradise and explorer’s playground otherwise known as our home? I mean, really. Would you bother spending hours taking outfit shots on a Saturday morning when you could be out at the beach?

No?

I didn’t think so. Me either, frankly.

But those are seriously my favorite shoes ever.

Hope your week is going FANTASTICALLY.

Rock on, Lover!

Life’s a Beach: Sailing

Aloha, Lovecat or Kitten,

Let’s start off this week right, shall we? … With gorgeous pictures of an amazing weekend enjoying the gifts that O‘ahu has to offer. An afternoon sailing tour with a good girl friend. Come along with me.

{ Life’s a Beach: Sailing O‘ahu’s Windward Coast AKA the East Shore, Waimanalo Bay, Waimanalo Beach, Lanikai Beach and Mokulua }

{ Yes, the water really was that blue/aqua that day. Waters off of Waimanalo, on Oahu’s windward side. }

Went sailing with one Miss Love, my girl friend, hiking partner in crime, my natural lifestyle mentor and fellow auto-immunie who is beating her condition into submission via healthy lifestyle, exercise, diet and radiating positive energy. We took a sailing tour on a Hawaiian/Polynesian Vaka Style canoe out along the Windward Side of Oahu out to the Mokulua (two islands) off of the fabled and stunning Lanikai Beach. AMAZING. I love our ‘aina (land).

(Captions TBD… it’s pretty late right now, and I have work in Le morn.)

You don’t see any photos of me, but I’m covered head to toe in sun protection gear and a fun beach UPF 50+ straw hat and big sunglasses.I did, however, manage to swim in my rash guard… but the current almost swept me away, and so I pretty much swam in place while holding on to the boat for dear life. When I called time on my poor attempt at swimming, I got back into the boat and covered right back up after reapplying sunscreen and putting my hat back on. I looked like the love child of Nicole Richie + a Nun, but I didn’t get a tan, so I called it a pretty good day.

I hope your weekend was fabulous, and that it set the tone to have a fantastic and equally amazing week to come!

May the wind always fill your sails and the stars shine bright to light your way in the darkness.

Rock on, Lover!
